Biography
Peter Marshall graduated from Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications with a master's degree in 1984. Marshall was a photographer for the student newspaper The Daily Orange from 1982 to 1984.
Scope and Content Note
The Peter Marshall Photographs contain photographs and negatives captured by Marshall during his time as a photographer for the Syracuse University student newspaper The Daily Orange from 1982 to 1984. The collection is divided into the following series:
The People series contains photographs and negatives of Syracuse University administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and guest speakers who visited the University. Some notable individuals pictured in this series are Gwendolyn Brooks, George Heinemann, Lena Horne, Marvin Lender, Walter Mondale, F. Story Musgrave, and Bernie Sanders.
The Syracuse community series consists of photographs and negatives of events and locations in the larger community in and around Syracuse, New York. For example, this series has photographs of places such as the Landmark Theatre and MacArthur Stadium, and from events including a comic book convention and jazz concert.
The Syracuse University campus series contains photographs and negatives of events, locations, and student activities on the Syracuse University campus. Some of the locations depicted are the campus bookstore, Holden Observatory, and the Crouse-Hinds School of Management Building right after its construction was completed. There are also negatives showing student activities such as intramural sports, club meetings, and a dance marathon.
