The Libraries will continue to provide reserves materials electronically to ensure that all students, on and off campus, can access these materials easily and safely. With this shift from physical to electronic items on reserve, the Libraries will provide and purchase e-books as well as create electronic scans of book chapters from our collections that faculty may place in Blackboard. E-resources have the benefit of allowing an unlimited number of students to access these resources from anywhere at any time. If an e-book is not available, the Libraries will scan and provide as much possible from physical books, following copyright guidelines. If a video or musical recording can’t be found in our many online media collections, DVDs and CDs can continue to be placed on physical reserves.

Content in library databases is often subject to shifts or changes, so when providing links to articles, it is important to find and use permanent URLs or permalinks to link to the content.
Databases vary in how they present permalinks, but a permalink can usually be found in the abstract or full display of the article as in the example below.
Because of the authentication process needed to access restricted resources from off-campus, it is important to preface your permalinks with Syracuse University' proxy URL: http://libezproxy.syr.edu/login?url= so in the above example, the permanent link would be:
http://libezproxy.syr.edu/login?url=http://search.proquest.com/docview/2333229363?accountid=14214
Contact the Libraries through Ask us if you need assistance creating a permanent URL. For detailed information regarding classroom use of copyrighted and licensed resources, see Using Copyrighted Works in Teaching: A Guide for Syracuse University Faculty.
