Giving
Welcoming Spaces
The Libraries provide welcoming and inclusive spaces for all learning styles and research preferences. Whether researching individually in a quiet environment or working collaboratively with a team, providing users with modernized and expanded library spaces is a vital component of the University’s vision.
Gifts to the Libraries could provide improvements, modern technologies and areas such as a multimedia studio, digital production lab or other amenities that are integral to building the library of the future.
For those interested in preserving their family legacy, the Libraries has numerous naming opportunities, including Carnegie Library’s Reading Room, Foyer/Main Entry and Lounge/Transition Area.

Access and Preservation
Core to the mission of libraries is preserving materials that safeguard our human history and provide access to materials for users to gain and advance knowledge and discovery. Supporting the Libraries with a gift to the Department of Digital Stewardship provides broader long-term access to important assets and makes collections discoverable. Similarly, gifts to Special Collections helps to advance scholarship and learning by connecting students, scholars and the public to our collections.
Scholarly Publishing
University presses publish vital scholarship, share ideas and give voice to important stories that may not otherwise be told. A gift to SU Press also provides open access opportunities that serve not only the campus but the region, state, nation and globe.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship
A physical and virtual hub for innovation, the Libraries provides cross-disciplinary programs that serve students, alumni, staff, faculty and community members. A gift to one of the Libraries’ programs enables students to practice important entrepreneurial skills while realizing career aspirations and often developing ideas that will contribute to society’s greater good.
Student Scholarship and Support
The Libraries proudly employs approximately 150 students annually, offering the students an opportunity to broaden experiential learning in a richly diverse and inclusive community. Our student employees are encouraged to innovate and apply ethical and inclusive decision-making in the context of their roles in the Libraries, while obtaining financial support to help pursue their educational growth aspirations.
Honoring the Memory of Those on Pan Am Flight 103
In 1989, 270 souls were tragically lost in the Pan Am Flight 103 disaster. The Libraries maintains the Pan Am Flight 103 Archives, bringing together the stories, materials and photos of the victims and providing a place to remember them. A gift to the Pan Am Flight 103 Archives or the Remembrance Scholarship enables the Libraries to maintain a permanent and living memorial for all who perished in the tragedy.
Academic Success, Research and Scholarship
There are so many ways to support faculty research and publication and students’ use of the Libraries as a hub to gather socially, collaborate with teams, consult trusted source materials and learn and confer with experts. Whether helping the Libraries provide tutoring, teaching, information literacy, technology assistance or resource collections, a gift to the Dean’s Discretionary Fund will help the Libraries allocate resources where needed.

Donation Receipts
Once your gift has been processed, you will receive a confirmation letter and tax receipt that you can keep for your personal records. You should receive your tax receipt within four to six weeks after we receive your gift.
Are gifts tax-deductible?
Yes. Syracuse University is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entity. Outright gifts, bequests, transfers and other gifts are deductible for federal estate and tax gift purposes if they meet the applicable provisions of the Internal Revenue Code.
How can my company match my gift to the SU Libraries?
Many employers double or triple charitable donations. Some companies also match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses. Use the online matching gift locator or contact your human resources department to see if your company offers a matching gift program.
