This exhibit, prepared by the Department of Special Collections and the Preservation Department of the Syracuse University Libraries, culminates the work of 2 foundation classes from Syracuse University's School of Visual and Performing Arts. The actual pieces are on display in the 1st floor cases in Bird Library and in Special Collections on the 6th Floor. Objects on the 1st floor can be viewed during regular library hours. The 6th floor is only open from 9-5 Monday through Friday.
The first class, 3-Dimensional Design taught by Claire Harootunian, interpreted written texts to create their book objects.
The second class, 2-Dimensional Design taught by Gail Hoffman, created their own "books" based on the concept of time.
Terry Keenan, Special Collections Librarian and Peter Verheyen, Conservation Librarian, in the Special Collections both gave presentations to this class, Terry on the history of the book and Peter on book structure and binding.
