Biography

Gordon Wright

Gordon Wright was born on November 20, 1866 in Massena, New York. He graduated from Syracuse University with bachelor's degrees in civil engineering in 1889 and architecture in 1895. Wright was head of the University's Department of Architecture from 1891 to 1892 and taught architecture for two more years before leaving the University to focus on his business in 1894.

Wright was a well-known architect in Syracuse, designing a variety of buildings in and around the city. Some of these were the First Baptist Church and Mizpah Tower, the Onondaga General Hospital, the Municipal Building of Fayetteville and a number of schools, many of which his daughter helped design. Wright also designed residences and apartment houses for many prominent citizens of Syracuse, including housing for the chapters of Kappa Alpha Theta and Phi Kappa Psi at Syracuse University.

Wright married Anna Spoon on May 15, 1891 and had two children, Marjorie Katherine Wright and Lawrence Gordon Wright. Gordon Wright died on September 7, 1950 in Fayetteville, New York.

Scope and Content Note
