Scope and Content Note

The George W. Weaver Scrapbook starts with the dedication program of the Hall of Languages of 1873. The scrapbook also includes an address about Syracuse University and “Dangers and Duties of Educated Men” by Chancellor Haven. Additionally, there are programs for junior exhibitions, class days, field days, commencements, Thanksgiving receptions, Syracuse University anniversaries, as well as musical programs during Weaver's time at Syracuse University. Also included are local newspaper clippings regarding these and other events and news about Syracuse University during his time as a student. Being a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon, Weaver saved several fraternity programs and invitations to banquets, conventions and reunions. Also within the scrapbook are his sophomore excursion tickets and several materials related to the death of George Hugh Erwin Maclay, a fellow fraternity member. This scrapbook ends with a copy of the first newspaper to be printed by electric power noted in his biography.
