Biography

William S. Ross Jr. attended Syracuse University during 1941-1943 in the College of Liberal Arts.

Scope and Content Note

The William S. Ross Jr. Scrapbook comprises local newspaper clippings focused on World War II. It provides insights to civilian life at the time and includes a mix of comics, propaganda posters, military recruitment posters, advertisements, and newspaper articles. The scrapbook includes clippings from The Daily Orange on the Syracuse University student population’s response to the war.

This collection contains racist language about and images of people of Japanese and Asian descent that users may find objectionable. The representations and language contained in this collection were prevalent at the time of their creation, although no less harmful and inaccurate than they are today. The collection is preserved and presented for its historic and research value.
