Syracuse University Office of Disability Services Records

An inventory of its records at the Syracuse University Archives

Finding aid created by: Kristin McAvoy
Date: 2017

Historical Note

The Office of Disability Services (ODS) at Syracuse University was founded in 1999 under Chancellor Kenneth A. Shaw. Prior to 1999, two separate programs provided assistance for students with disabilities: one addressed the needs of students with physical disabilities and the other addressed students with learning disabilities. The merger of these two programs created the ODS.

Since its creation, the Office of Disability Services has striven to fulfill the following mission: "Syracuse University values diversity and seeks to promote equal access to educational opportunities for all students, including SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. The mission of the Office of Disability Services (ODS) is to engage the University Community to empower students, enhance equity and provide a platform for innovation and inclusion."

Scope and Content Note

The Syracuse University Office of Disability Services Records consist of administrative records, correspondence, internal and external publications, student works, brochures, newspaper clippings, and faculty and student handbooks.
