Biography

Mary Luella Masters (1861-1942) was an alumna of Syracuse University in the College of Liberal Arts (1887-1888) and College of Medicine (1888-1891). She served as a physician in Thorntown, Indiana from 1901-1902. Masters became a member of the Medical Missionary Association of China and served in Foochow (Fuzhou), China beginning in 1892. She was associated with the Women's and Children's and Foo Chow City hospitals.

Scope and Content Note

The Mary Luella Masters Scrapbook contains photographs and notes from her time in Foochow, China on topics such as foot binding, everyday life in Foo Chow, mountains, monasteries, and photographs concerning the Kucheng massacre.
