Biography

Estie Lipman (1930-2009) was a Syracuse University alumna. She was born in New York, New York and enrolled at Utica College of Syracuse University in 1946. Syracuse University first offered courses in Utica, New York in the 1930s and then established Utica College in 1946 with the expectation that one day the college would become a fully independent institution. Lipman was a member of Chi Beta Sigma, a racially and religiously integrated sorority, the drama club Gaslighters, and the Radio Group at Utica College. She later transferred to Syracuse University and graduated in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in sociology. Lipman then returned to New York City and married Herbert W. Bomzer in 1951. She went on to receive two master's degrees: one in library science from Columbia University, and the other in education administration from Michigan State University. Lipman worked as an academic advisor at the University of Illinois, Central Michigan University, and Fordham University. She eventually retired when she was a senior social worker in Queens, New York.
