Scope and Content Note

The Joan Levison Scrapbook contains black-and-white photographs and other enclosures collected by Levison during her time as a student at Syracuse University in the mid-1940s. Most of the photographs show Levison and other female students at Root Cottage doing activities such as relaxing in their rooms and the cottage’s backyard, playing in the snow, and dressing up to go to the Easter Sunday service at Hendricks Chapel. There are also photographs of Levison and other students, most likely other pre-medical students, wearing white lab coats in a class laboratory setting. There are some photographs of campus buildings and events such as Spring Weekend and Winter Carnival as well. The enclosures in the scrapbook are the 1948 Syracuse University commencement program, an article about the Archbold Gymnasium fire, and the 1947 Alpha Epsilon Delta New York Beta chapter installation banquet program.
