Biography

Kenneth Gallagher (d. 1987) attended Syracuse University from 1919 to 1923 where he majored in agriculture. While at Syracuse University he was involved with both football and crew, earning the distinction of lettering in crew. He was also a member of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity and the campus agricultural club.


Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of materials dated from 1918 to 1957. Materials include photographs, a diary entry, a page from a book, a newsletter, pages from the Onondagan, and a crew program. Content of the materials focuses heavily on Gallagher’s time at Syracuse University, and specifically on crew. Photographs from the collection are largely of Gallagher, his teammates, and crew coach James A. Ten Eyck. The diary entry was written by Gallagher in his early years at Syracuse University, and in it he writes about his classes and crew, among other things.

Related Material

Newspaper clippings were removed and placed in the Syracuse University Clipping Files. A photograph of Coach Ten Eyck was removed and placed in the Portrait Collection.

Acquisition Information

The papers were found within and separated from the William P. Tolley Papers. The materials were sent to Tolley in 1989 by Gallagher's wife, Dorothy.

Processing Information

Materials were rehoused into archival folders. Photographic materials were placed into Mylar sleeves.
