The Daily Orange Collection

An inventory of the collection at the Syracuse University Archives

Finding aid created by: Natalie Pace
Date: 2018

Historical Note

The Daily Orange is the longest running student publication on Syracuse University's campus. It was founded in 1903 and was the nineteenth college daily in the United States. From 1907 to 1934 The Daily Orange offices and presses were housed at the Orange Publishing Company Building. After The Daily Orange offices left this location, they took up residence in a variety of locations on and near the Syracuse University campus. The Daily Orange became an independent newspaper in 1971 following budget cuts by the Student Finance Board. From 1926 to 2002 The Daily Orange also produced a special summer version of the paper called the Summer Orange. All content created in print and online is produced by Syracuse University students. The Daily Orange is still in production today. The paper produced four issues per week up until the fall of 2018 when they began producing three issues per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The Daily Orange ceased physical publications partway through the spring semester in 2020 on account of the Syracuse University campus closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting in the fall of 2020, the paper began producing two issues per week on Mondays and Thursdays. In January of 2023, the paper began producing one issue per week on Thursday.
