Historical Note

Books & Ideas was a television series produced by Syracuse University's Television and Radio Center in 1956 and distributed by National Educational Television, a precursor to PBS. The episodes were originally shot on kinescope in black and white.


Scope and Content Note

The Books & Ideas Collection comprises 36 film reels of the television series. There are a total of 19 half-hour episodes; the collection holds multiple copies of most of the episodes.

Access Restrictions:

Please note that the collection is housed off-site, and advance notice is required to allow time to have the materials brought to the Reading Room on campus.

Access to films requires advance notice to produce a use copy.

Use Restrictions:

Written permission must be obtained from the Syracuse University Archives and all relevant rights holders before publishing quotations, excerpts or images from any materials in this collection.
