John A. Beach graduated summa cum laude from Syracuse University in 1954. While at Syracuse University he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Phi Gamma Delta. He served as the president of Tau Theta Upsilon, Orange Key, and as was class president during his sophomore, junior, and senior years at the university. He went on to serve as the Interim Dean of Syracuse University’s College of Law from 1973 to 1974. Beach wrote a biography of Syracuse University Chancellor William P. Tolley in 2009.
This collection contains materials dated from 1940 to 2009. The collection is arranged in two series, Chapter drafts and Research files. All of the materials are related to Chancellor William P. Tolley or the creation of Minister of Higher Education: A Biography of William Pearson Tolley 1900-1996 by John A. Beach. It is not believed this biography was ever published.
The first series, Chapter drafts, consists of materials dated 2009. All of the materials in this series are drafts for chapters in the book Beach wrote about William P. Tolley.
The second series, Research files, consists of materials dated 1940 to 2004. Materials in this series are primarily photographs, but also include magazines, a letter, yearbook pages, and newspaper clippings.
