Historical Note

U.K. Families Flight 103 was founded April 1, 1989 in London by relatives and friends of those who died in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 on December 21, 1988 over Lockerbie, Scotland. The group primarily represented the British and European victims' families. The proposed aims of U.K. Families Flight 103, as outlined in their June 1989 meeting, are "to provide mutual emotional support and friendship by creating relationships between the relatives who had share experiences," and "to press for an independent inquiry which, it was hoped, would result in improved security measures, as well as the formation of a National Disaster Committee." The group is currently led by Jim Swire, whose daughter Flora was killed in the bombing.
