Biography OR Historical Note

June and Jim Wilson are residents of the Lockerbie area and lived on the outskirts of Tundergarth in December, 1988 when Pan Am 103 fell from the sky. The cockpit of the Clipper Maid of the Seas landed in a field near Tundergarth and the Wilson's farm was a very short distance from this. Their fields would be important points in the search effort as many bodies fell on their land. The Wilsons spent days feeding the police and investigators and dealing with the aftermath of the crash, which would extend into the new year. Media intrusions were a few of the hardships the family faced in the days following the crash.

Scope and Content Note

The Wilson Family Collection contains three series: Clippings, Printed Materials and Subject Files. The Subject Files collection contains the personal account of June Wilson, whose farm was on the outskirts of Tundergarth (where the cockpit fell) and was heavily impacted by debris and the resultant search and investigation efforts. June Wilson's personal account of the days following the crash is included under Subject Files and provides a rare insight into the experiences of the residents of Lockerbie. The account is poignant yet still informative and much may be learned by reading it. Materials relating to the group U.K. Families-Flight 103 are also found in this collection as well as those of the Community Liaison Office in Lockerbie.
