Finding aid created by: LMD
Date: 17 Feb 2010

Biographical History

The account book owner was a Constableville, New York resident in the mid-nineteenth century. The owner's primary business appears to have been selling finished timber. He also organized construction projects such as churches and houses.

Scope and Contents of the Collection

The Timber Sales Account Book contains names of customers, lists of items or services purchased, prices, and dates of payment. Some entries are listed under customer names and some are under general building projects, such as "Baptist Church," "M. E. Church," and "Hotel Converted." Several projects have lists estimating the cost of building materials such as wood, nails, and shingles and estimating the cost of construction work such as carpentry, painting, and masonry. Most entries are short, simply recording sales of timber.

Arrangement of the Collection
