Biographical History

Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) was an American abolitionist and author, best known for her book Uncle Tom's Cabin which depicted the life of slaves in the American South. Her younger sister Isabella Beecher Hooker (1822-1907) was a leader, lecturer and activist in the fight for women's suffrage in the United States.

Scope and Contents of the Collection

This collection consists of a commemorative spoon designed by Isabella Beecher Hooker to honor her sister, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and an accompanying brochure entitled "A Brief Sketch of the life of Harriet Beecher Stowe, by her sister, Isabella Beecher Hooker."
