Congressional
Comprehensive index to debates, bills, hearings, reports, committee
prints, public laws, etc. Many items in full text. For other items, use SuDoc
or accession numbers to find publication on shelves or in fiche cabinets (most
on 3rd floor Bird Library; some in Science & Technology Library). Database
for SU students, faculty, and staff only.
To find debates, click Publications and then Congressional Record by page
citation or date.

- Thomas
THOMAS is a website freely available to anyone on the Internet which includes
the Congressional Record and full text legislation from 1989 (101st Congress)
to the present. THOMAS also provides summaries (not full text) of legislation
back to 1975 (94th Congress). Includes bill summaries and status, committee
information, roll call votes, historical documents, etc. A service of the
Library of Congress.
- Hearings
There are several
ways to find hearings:
a. You can use the SU library Catalog
and search by title. The Catalog may give you a link to the electronic
version.

b. You can use the SuDoc number to find the hearing in print on the third
floor in the library. The SuDoc is listed in CIS Index under the title of
the hearing in small, light colored print. Example: Y4L11/4:S.HRG.106-519.

c. You can use GPO
Access - Legislative
To find hearings
from 1997 to present, click Congressional Hearings under Congressional Materials.
If you know the date of the hearing you want, it may be useful to search by
date.
Also available at GPO Access are full text of bills, hearings, committee prints,
public laws, Congressional Record, Congressional Directory, and more. GPO
Access archives publications at its site - it does not remove them once they
are published. GPO Access is a service of the US Government Printing Office.

- Lexis
Nexis Statistical
Statistical information from the Congressional Information Service, Inc. The
service allows users to search summaries of statistical publications then
link to the full text of selected publications on Statistical Universe and
government websites. The "Search Tables Base Edition" part of the
database includes statistics from 1997 to present. Access Note: SU and
Law only.
Searching suggestions: If you do not get any results, you may have
too many limits checkmarked. Generally use only a few limits. It may be helpful
to use the "Subject List" to find words to search with. "Public
health" is one subject you can use.
You can click "Search Abstracts" on the left column to search more
information. This includes information from American Statistics Index (1973
to present), Statistical Reference Index (1980 to present), and Index to International
Statistics (1983 to present). The results from Abstracts are not all full
text, but the information may be available elsewhere in the library or on
the issuing organization's website.

Accounting Office
The General Accounting Office is the audit, evaluation, and investigative
arm of Congress. Reports are available on numerous subjects.
They often include tables and numeric data.

Center for Health Statistics
- New
York State Department of Health
Info for Researchers, Info for Consumers and Info for providers contain links
to statistical data sources.

York State Citizen Guide- Health
This page includes some links to statistical data such as County
Health Indicator Profiles. Many of the links only give basic information
about a disease for consumers.
- New
York State Department of Labor
Includes links to affirmative action data by state, county, or metropolitan
area; unemployment rates and labor force; employment and labor by industry;
occupational injuries and illnesses; wages.

York State Office of Mental Health Resources
Includes the 2000
NYS Chartbook of Mental Health Information for NY State or by county
and the Patient
Characteristic Survey .
- Population
Reference Bureau
This site includes statistics about population dimensions of social, economic,
and political issues on U.S. and international population trends and their
implications. PRB collaborates with other organizations both in the United
States and other countries. Their donors and partners government agencies,
nongovernmental organizations, foundations, and universities include
the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the U.S. Agency for International
Development, the United Nations Population Fund, the Annie E. Casey Foundation,
Save the Children, the University of Costa Rica, Thailand's Mahidol University,
the Population Council, and the National Institute of Child Health and Human
Development.
