Before starting a research project in Physical Anthropology, it is useful to have a list of the subject terms and keywords that will occur most often in the literature. Below is a list of some terms that are used in connection with Physical Anthropology. This list is not complete, but it can serve as a good starting point for research.

When searching in the library catalog (SUMMIT), these terms can be used as keywords or subject headings. Below is an example of a keyword search:

A subject heading search will return a list of categories. The first item is the broadest category, and those below it are subcategories. The number on the left refers to how many items the library holds in that category. Using the subcategories is a good way of narrowing down a research topic that is too general.
