  • LexisNexis Academic
    Wide variety of news sources in full text: newspapers, newswires, transcripts, etc. Also includes legal news. For SU students, faculty, and staff only.

  • Polling the Nations
    A database of polls from national, state, local and special surveys addressing social, political, and economic concerns. Includes question, responses, location, survey method, source, contact information, sample size, and sample population. The data are gathered from professional polling organizations, television networks, universities, newspapers, businesses and associations. For SU students, faculty, and staff only.

  • Newspapers & Media
    Choose "Newspapers and Media" from this Database Menu, which links to groups of newspapers as well as individual titles, e.g. Post Standard (Syracuse), Global Newsbank, New York Times, Ethnic NewsWatch, Television News Archive, Alt-PressWatch, etc. For SU students, faculty, and staff only.

  • PAIS International
    Covers public affairs and government. Includes articles, books, conference proceedings, government publications, book chapters, and statistical directories. International in scope; some state-level coverage. For SU students, faculty, and staff only.

  • Political Risk Yearbook
    Country Reports on 106 countries including political and economic risk analysis. Focuses on political and business information: impact of recent political and economic events, the investment climate, developing markets, currency, corporate security, etc. For SU students, faculty, and staff only.

  • Associations Unlimited
    Contains information for over 440,000 U.S. national, regional, state, and local nonprofit membership organizations in all fields, including IRS data on U.S. 501(c) nonprofit organizations.   • Campaigns and Elections Magazine
    Includes selections from Congressional Quarterly

  • Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
    "A nonpartisan research organization and policy institute that conducts research and analysis on a range of government policies and programs."

  • Congress.Org
    Search issues by topic, links to articles or commentary from variety of organizations. Searchable directory of elected officials. Provides legislative highlights and tips on contacting congresspeople. A public service of Capitol Advantage.

  • Congress Watch - Public Citizen
    "Monitors Congress and fights for consumer rights, government and corporate accountability, campaign finance reform, a clean environment, and health and safety protection through lobbying, public education, research and media outreach."

  • Gale's Ready Reference Shelf
    Huge database of research centers, organizations, publications, associations, media sources. For SU students, faculty, and staff only.

  • Institute for Policy Studies
    IPS seeks to create a more responsible society, one built around the values of nonviolence, justice, sustainability, and decency. "The only multi-issue progressive think tank in Washington, D.C."

  • Moving Ideas Network (MIN)
    Formerly the Electronic Policy Network. Shares ideas and resources from progressive research and advocacy institutions. Useful Links points to blogs as well as other sites and organizations.

  • Open CRS
    Provides access to Congressional Research Service Reports in the public domain.

  • Opensecrets.org
    "Your guide to the money in American elections." Includes fundraising data, contributions by industry, useful issue profiles (e.g. managed care, gun control, campaign finance reform).

  • Policy Agendas Project
    A joint project of Pennsylvania State University and University of Washington, the Policy Analysis Tool allows you to create graphs and charts of Congressional priorities, going back to 1946.

  • Project Vote Smart
    Includes candidate information, legislation, elected officials, and issues.

  • Background material and data on major programs within the jurisdiction of the Committee on Ways and Means (Green Book)
    A committee print of the House Ways and Means Committee. Provides statistical data on major entitlement and social programs, e.g. Medicare, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG), etc.

  • Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance
    CFDA is a compendium of Federal programs, projects, services, and activities which provide assistance or benefits to the American public. It contains financial and non-financial assistance programs administered by departments and establishments of the Federal government.

  • Government Assistance Almanac (print source)
    Private publication which reorganizes information in CFDA (above). Some users may find this arrangement easier to use.
