- List of Journals Indexed in Index Medicus
The List of Journals is a PDF document that lists the almost 4000 journals that are indexed by Index Medicus. Titles are listed in four sections: (1) Alphabetic listing by abbreviated title, followed by full title; (2) Alphabetic listing by full title, followed by abbreviated title; (3) Alphabetic listing by subject field; and (4) Alphabetic listing by country of publication.

A searchable list of the RSC LIC's complete holdings of over 2000 periodical titles, including 630 currently held titles. The LIC offers a "3D" Document Discovery & Delivery service through this search interface.
- University of Regensburg Electronic Journals Library (Elektronische Zeitschriftenbibliothek
- EZB)
The EZB is a directory of journals evaluated collectively by 215 libraries and research centers. It contains over 4,300 open access titles along with journals that require subscription for access and those that provide only table of content information. The Chemistry and Pharmacology section lists around 1,100 titles.
- Virtual Library: Science: Chemistry: Journals
A list of journals organized by publisher that comprise a "core list" for the field of chemistry. In most cases, links to the electronic version of the journal are provided.
General Reference Journal Lists
- AcqWeb
AcqWeb is intended as a metasite for acquisitions librarians. AcqWeb provides linkages to book and journal publishers, organized alphabetically and by subject.
- All That JAS: Journal Abbreviation Sources

- Directory of Open Access Journals : DOAJ
The aim of the Directory of Open Access Journals is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact. The directory may be searched or browsed by subject. The DOAJ is hosted by Lund University Libraries and funded by the Open Society Institute - Budapest and SPARC (The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition).
- Electronic Journal Miner
Electronic serials may be defined very broadly as any journal, magazine, e'zine, webzine, newsletter or type of electronic serial publication which is available over the Internet. This site primarly includes ejournal sites as they are offered by the publisher. Titles are searchable or browsable by title and may also be browsed by subject classification. Many electronic journals are found in aggregations (e.g. EBSCOhost, Gale InfoTrac). These may be found by using Gold Rush a system produced by the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries that lists serials embedded within other aggregations or databases.
- jake (Jointly Administered Knowledge Environment)
jake (Jointly Administered Knowledge Environment) is a reference source developed by the Yale University Cushing/Whitney Medical Library which makes finding, managing, and linking online journals and journal articles easier for students, researchers, and librarians. jake does this by managing online resource metadata with a database union list, title authority control, and linking tools. Title searches are automatically truncated so journal abbreviations are easily searched. Access to full-text is dependent upon library subscription and the originating internet domain of your computer. - Project RoMEO
The RoMEO Project (Rights MEtadata for Open archiving) is funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee for one year (1 August 2002 - 31 July 2003) to investigate the rights issues surrounding the 'self-archiving' of research in the UK academic community under the Open Archive Initiative's Protocol for Metadata Harvesting. Some of the Project's goals are understanding stakeholder needs with respect to the protection and use of intellectual property disclosed under the Open Archive Initiative protocol, including both the IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) status of the metadata as well as the documents themselves; using existing and developing standards such as the Open Digital Rights Language develop an interoperable set of metadata elements to describe the rights information; developing ways of incorporating the rights elements into the metadata of documents harvested by the OAI metadata harvesting protocol; and creating a demonstrator system and guidelines that illustrates how the elements may be disclosed by the author, and how they may appear to the end user.
- PubList.Com

Publishing Inititatives
- Budapest Open Access Initiative
The Budapest Open Access Initiative arose from a meeting convened in Budapest by the Open Society Institute (OSI) in 2001 to accelerate progress in the international effort to make research articles in all academic fields freely available on the internet. They explored methodologies for converging separate open access initiatives in order to aid the transition to open access and to make open-access publishing economically self-sustaining. The initiative has been signed by individuals and organizations from around the world who represent researchers, universities, laboratories, libraries, foundations, journals, publishers, learned societies, and kindred open-access initiatives.
- Open Archives Initiative
The Open Archives Initiative (OAI) develops and promotes interoperability standards and projects that aim to facilitate the efficient dissemination of content. OAI has its roots in an effort to enhance access to e-print archives as a means of increasing the availability of scholarly communication. It has expanded its purpose to include open access strategies for a broader range of digital materials including e-journals and courseware. The fundamental technological framework and standards that are developing to support this work are independent of the both the type of content offered and the economic mechanisms surrounding that content.
- SPARC : Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition
SPARC is an alliance of universities, research libraries, and organizations built as a constructive response to market dysfunctions in the scholarly communication system that have reduced dissemination of scholarship and crippled libraries. SPARC's agenda focuses on enhancing broad and cost-effective access to peer-reviewed scholarship in a three pronged approach: (1) Incubation of competitive alternatives to current high-priced commercial journals and digital aggregations. (2) Public advocacy of fundamental changes in the system and the culture of scholarly communication. This encompasses outreach targeted at various stakeholder groups. (3) Education campaigns aimed at enhancing awareness of scholarly communication issues and supporting expanded institutional and scholarly community roles in and control over the scholarly communication process.
