Letters
About Literature
A reading promotion program for
school children in grades 4-12. We collaborate with the Library
of Congress in this annual, nation-wide program to encourage
reading and writing. Readers in the three entry levels, grades 4-6, 7-8, 9-12, enter their letter to an author at the New York state level. First place winners at each level in New York state are are entered into the national contest. Information about the national contest is available on the Letters About Literature site.
The New York Center for the Book thanks Letters About Literature program sponsor, Target Stores.
Celebration
of Immigrant Writing
New York State was the port of
entry for many, many immigrants since the beginning of the nation's
history. We celebrate writing by these immigrants, and literature
about their experiences, from both the past and the present. See
the list below for activities in New York State that mark immigrant
writing and for resources that explore that history. Please
let us know about events in your institution so that we can add them
to our Web site listing.
