Databases - These are electronic indexes that you can search to locate journal articles, books, book chapters, dissertations and conference or proceeding papers. Some databases provide full text access; others only provide you with the citation. The Library owns over 300 databases. Some are very subject specific (e.g. Sociological Abstracts, America: History and Life); others are interdisciplinary (e.g. Expanded Academic, Wilson Select). To access any of the databases from off campus, you will be prompted for a user name and password. Your user name is your ten digit ID # (make sure that you use all ten digits) and your password is your last name in lower-case letters. For additional assistance with this, please go to the instructions for remote access to databases.

Locating Journal Articles
1. Go to the Database Main Menu to locate a relevant database. If the database does not provide full text access to the entire journal, newspaper or magazine article that you are looking for, go to the catalog to see if the Library subscribes to it. Be sure to change the search box from "keyword" to "journal title." Type in the title of the journal; not the title of the article itself. You will need the complete citation of the article when trying to locate it in the stacks of the Library. Citations include the following information: author, title of article, title of journal, volume #, issue #, date and page numbers.

2. If the journal is not in the catalog, check the E-journal list to see if another database provides full text access.

3. If the Library does not have access to the journal that you are looking for, you can request the article for free from InterLibrary Loan. This can take up to 10-14 days to receive the requested article.
