These pages list and describe data for use in statistical analyses. In the majority of cases, you will need software such as SAS, Stata or SPSS to make use of the data. The Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) is the largest and most well-known of data repositories. All of the data at ICPSR is freely available to SU users. They also have many data-related informational pages:

Data Libraries and Information

  • Data on the Net Links to sites of numeric social science statistical data, data catalogs, data libraries, social science gateways, etc. Provided by University of California, San Diego.
  • Research Resources for the Social Sciences Organized into 18 categories including general resources, reference materials, data archives, and various social sciences disciplines.
  • SOSIG SOSIG (Social Science Information Gateway). Extensive links to social sciences resources worldwide.
  • University Data Libraries

  • Data and Program Library Service at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has a large data collection. Also at DPLS is the Internet Crossroads in Social Science Data, a searchable collection of hundreds of links to data-related web sites all over the world.
  • Harvard-MIT Data Center is the home of the Virtual Data Center, a collection of data centers.
  • Social Science Data Collection From the University of California, San Diego.
  • Yale Social Science Statistical Laboratory Information about the Statlab and other social science resources at Yale.
  • Henry A. Murray Research Center A national archive of over 270 studies on wide-ranging topics but specializing in women's studies and mental health.

  • CASS CASS (Centre for Applied Social Surveys), an ESRC (Economic & Social Research Council) Resource Centre run jointly by SCPR (Social & Community Planning Research) and the University of Southampton with the University of Surrey. Offers a survey Question Bank for use by social scientists and social researchers as well as links to relevant sites.
  • CESSDA Home page of CESSDA (Council of European Social Science Data Archives). Includes access to catalogs of member organizations and a clickable map of Social Science Data Archives all over the world.
