Syracuse Census Data Files - Online Analysis

NDS now provides the ability to analyze and extract Census data for the city and metropolitan area of Syracuse, NY online. Users are strongly urged to refer to the notes and other information contained in the online codebooks for each dataset.
  • 2000 Census of Population and HousingThis extract from the 2000 U.S. Census is for the city ("place" in Census terms) of Syracuse, NY. The data are at the block level; there are 2,038 blocks. There is an additional varibale named "NEIGHBORHOOD" that indicates in which neighborhood the block is located. The neighborhood designations were obtained from the Syracuse Tomorrow's Neighborhoods Today project.
  • The datasets below were extracted, with permission, from data provided by the IPUMS project. Anyone using these data agrees to abide by the Citation and Use of IPUMS Data. Data for the entire country are available for download and online analysis at the IPUMS web site.

  • Public Use Microdata Samples The PUMS data are samples from various censuses where the data are provided at the person level. The data provided here begin in 1880, the earliest in which Syracuse is identifiable, to 2000. The area covered is the Syracuse metropolitan area; users are reminded that the exact geogrphic area comprising the Syracuse "metro" area has changed over time. Additionally, not all variables are available for all years.
  • 2005 American Community Survey This is the Public Use Microdata Sample data from the American Community Survey. As above, the geographic area covered is the Syracuse Metro area. The ACS will replace the long form of the decennial census in 2010.
