The maps and government information collection includes all kinds and formats of government publications and maps. S.U. Library has been part of the federal depository program since 1878. We currently select 70% of all documents available to depository libraries. Our other government publications include:
The map collection includes over 272,000 maps and aerial photographs,
50,000 maps in microform, over 4,500 atlases, Sanborn fire insurance maps
(digital, print, and microform), and extensive holdings of guidebooks,
travel pamphlets, and brochures. Some geologic and soil survey maps are
housed in the Science and Technology Library. The Special Collections
Department houses many older New York State maps and atlases. More on Maps and
GIS GIS (Geographic Information Systems) The GIS/Map Librarian assists Library users with GIS software, locating
and analyzing geospatial data, and licensing and access to the ESRI GIS
software and Virtual Campus classes. The Library's GIS service includes a
lab (G-SIC), hardware, software, specialized assistance, instruction, and

GIS The Numeric Data Librarian assists Library users with locating and
analyzing data, with data management and analysis, use of statistical
software (e.g. SAS, Stata, SPSS), and provides advice on research methods,
study design, and questionnaire construction. The Library's data software
is available in the G-SIC. More on
Numeric Data Services G-SIC (Geographic and Statistical Information Center) The G-SIC is located across the hall from the MGI Reference Desk, in
room 348. It has 6 workstations, 24" monitors, CD and DVD burners, a 36"
width color plotter, high quality large format scanners, and specialized
software. The Center is for SU and ESF students, faculty, and staff. More on the

Patrons not affiliated with the university may inquire at the Bird
Library Circulation desk (1st floor) or use the free Interlibrary Loan
