ESRI software is available to SU and SUNY-ESF students, faculty, and staff. ESRI software and data sets can only be installed on SU or ESF-owned computers.Please note the following markers after each software title as to its installation requirements.
- (S) = requires that a software key or license to be generated
- (H) = also requires a hardware key

Request a software Installation
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Hardware and/or software keys will be issued to those running ArcGIS, on a workstation or network. The following information is required from you or your network administrator.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL information requested below must be supplied, otherwise the request will be sent back.
For UNIX machines and network servers
- Name
- E-mail address
- Department
- Make and model of computer
- Operating system
- Computer serial number
- Host ID
- Host name
- Number of seats requested
- Indicate which ESRI software programs you want (see list of available programs)
- If you are currently using ArcINFO what version are you using?
For NT machines and network servers
- Name
- E-mail address
- Department
- Make and model of computer
- Operating system
- Computer serial number

- Number of seats requested
- If you are currently using ArcINFO what version are you using?
After the required licenses have been generated they will be forwarded to you. You must then request that your systems administrator install the software on your computer and/or network server. If a hardware key(s) are needed you may pick them up yourself or they can be sent to you through campus mail.

About the ESRI Virtual Campus
- There are 155 courses and workshops available through ESRI's Virtual Campus. The 55 classes listed below can be taken for free through SU's site License.
- Users must be a current student, staff, or faculty of Syracuse University or SUNY-ESF.
- Course codes are valid for one calendar year from the date they were created.
- Courses are set up as an individual self-paced learning environment.
- To find a complete list of classes and workshops, search the online catalog on the ESRI Virtual Campus. In the "Search Course Description" panel, follow the instructions. There is also a link to the entire list of courses.
If you are new to ArcGIS, then you might want to take one of these Virtual Campus courses first to learn the fundamentals.

Computer needs
Users will need access to the appropriate ESRI software and an internet connection to complete each class. The GIS lab in Bird library is set up so that any of the ESRI virtual campus classes can be taken there.Access codes
The following information is needed in order to generate the access codes for each class. Each class access code is good for one calendar year from the date it is generated.For individuals
- Full name
- e-mail address
- Title of the virtual class
For faculty who want their whole class to take a virtual class
- A list of those enrolled in the class.
- Complete list of their e-mail addresses
- Title of the virtual class(es) they want.

Free - 1-yr license for ArcGIS that students can use for class
This is a promotion that can only be requested by faculty members for students in the classes they are teaching. Individual students can not request the software themselves.
The software has a license that will timeout after one year and can be loaded on ANY computer.
Again, only faculty can request this 1-yr ArcGIS software for classes they are teaching.Faculty will need to fill out the online form HERE to request copies.
ESRI will send you copies of the software that include ArcGIS 9.2 which includes: ArcView, Spatial Analyst, 3-D Analyst, and Network Analyst. The package does NOT included ArcEditor or ArcInfo.
