CLASSIFIED COLLECTION [1 OF 2]
Call Number System || Architecture || Modern Architects || Architectural Theory
The Classified Collection is the largest grouping of slides. These slides are housed in
gray Neumade file cabinets in the first half of the room. They are organized by medium.
Therefore there are drawers for Architecture, Painting (and other 2D arts), Sculpture
(and other 3D arts) and the Design Arts. Our slides are classified using a call number system
devised by Harvard University's Fogg Art Museum.

Below is a sample slide illustrating this system:
There is a three-line call number on each slide similar to that of a book call number.
The first number on the first line indicates the art form (1 for architecture, 2 for sculpture, 3 for painting and other 2D arts, and 4-8 for the decorative or design arts. The other numbers on the first line denote the country.
Architecture (100s) slides are arranged by:
- Country--where the building is (not alphabetical, but by Fogg System)
- City--alphabetical by city name
- Building Type--churches, houses, museums, commercial buildings, etc.
- Specific Building--marked by purple-striped cards
- Parts of Building--drawings and plans, exteriors, interiors, etc.

Modern Architects:
This is a separate section arranged by architect and then by country, city, building type, and specific building. Architects in this section have worked from the late 1800s to the present.
Use the Architects Finding File to locate buildings by an individual architect and where they may be found in the Collection.
Architectural Theory:
Slides on architectural theory may be found in two locations:
- The regular collection (100-105). Includes Structural Theory and theoretical work by earlier architects.
- The Modern Architects series also contains theoretical work by each architect at the very beginning. (e.g. unbuilt projects, texts, ideas/criticisms, and travel sketches.
