Entry Guidelines

Eligibilty:

Undergraduate and graduate students of Syracuse University are eligible to contribute their artwork. Preference will be given to students in the College of Visual and Performing Arts and Art Education. All proposals must be submitted through the Syracuse University Library Art Exhibit Submission Form.

Eligible Works:

The two exhibit spaces include 1) Wall space (aprox 20' long x 8' high wall space) for hanging art in Room 448 on the 4th floor, and 2) Display cases for three-dimensional work in the foyer of the 4th floor. Due to the small size of available cases, three-dimensional works will be limited to smaller sizes.

Entry Process:

Interested artists are asked to electronically complete the entire Submission Form and email it to the indicated email address. Images of proposed works should be supplied on CD, on 35mm slides or by photograph. All images must be clearly identified and labeled. Proposals will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Preparation and Set-Up of Works:

All artwork must be ready to display (i.e. mounted, framed etc). Hanging items must be framed using Plexiglas/acrylic glazing.

Contributors will also be responsible for providing ready to mount labels. Labels must be mounted and cut to size. These will include a brief biographical sketch and artist's statement not to exceed 1 page (8.5 x 11) and individual descriptive information for each work. All text must be included with the initial proposal and edited for clarity and spelling/grammer.

Contributors will be responsible for delivering the artwork to and from the Library. Under the supervision of SUL Staff, the artist will be responsible for the hanging and arrangement of all materials in the gallery space. Basic security measures will be taken in displaying artwork. Artwork will be returned only to the lender or duly authorized agent or representative with proper written permission. The University has the right to discard artwork not picked up within 30 days of the closing of the exhibition.

Security and Liability:

Bird Library will provide reasonable security measures for exhibits. The Library accepts no responsibility for damage to, or loss of, art pieces at any time while in the Library or while being transported to or from the Library. The contributor must complete an Exhibit Release Form before the display is installed. Syracuse University does not provide insurance for student artwork on exhibition. If artist wishes to insure artwork it is the artist’s responsibility to do so.
