Digital Library Advisory Committee: Charge
The Digital Library Advisory Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Director of Digital Library Development Services (DLDS) and assists in developing Syracuse University's Digital Library Program. The group will consider a variety of issues and promote clarity of vision and understanding. Members are committed to bringing informed perspective, insight, and knowledge of organizational, instructional, technological, and other issues of relevance to the nascent DL program. Group members represent operational and/or functional areas of the Library and key external stakeholder groups.
Activities of the DL Advisory Committee may include assisting in the development of the program plan for digital library development in support of SU's teaching and research mission; identifying key DL opportunities and stakeholders; sharing information on relevant new and emerging DL technologies, architectures, standards, and organizations; considering the implications of proposed library-wide DL policies; exploring collaborative opportunities within SUL, with campus partners, and other regional and national institutions; and identifying DL assessment needs and priorities.
Structure and mechanics
The Digital Library Advisory Committee is a standing library committee, convened by the DLDS Director, in consultation with the University Librarian. The Director serves as chair and refers recommendations to the University Librarian, the Administrative Committee, and Cabinet, as appropriate, for discussion and adoption. In the course of its work, the Committee may consult widely with other library committees and departments.
The full committee will meet quarterly; a subcommittee of library representatives may meet more frequently as needed to address operational issues. The Chair will call meetings, set agendas with input from the group, facilitate discussion, encourage consensus, maintain notes and records, and define the work to be done between meetings. The chair may delegate any of these tasks to members of the group. Meeting minutes and other documentation will be posted on the staff web site.
Membership
Members have been selected based on their ability to contribute to this effort and represent functional areas within the Library and key stakeholders from the University community. The initial term of membership is one year. Members of the Administrative Committee serve in an ex-officio capacity.
