Welcome to SUL Wireless
What is SUL Wireless?
In partnership with Computing and Media Services' (CMS) AirOrange Program, the Syracuse University Library offers wireless access and a laptop loan service.
How does SUL wireless work?
Computing and Media Services selected E.S. Bird Library as one of several campus locations to receive wireless networking. Wireless coverage is available throughout all of E.S. Bird Library, Science & Technology Library, Math Library, Physics Library and Geology Library. For a map of the coverage areas, see, http://cms.syr.edu/connecting/wireless/locations.html. If your own laptop has wireless capability, you need to have it configured at the Information Help Center located in Room 116 Hinds Hall.
Library Laptops
The E.S. Bird Library Circulation desk has laptops available for loan. Our laptop models are Dell Latitude C510, and Dell Latitude D505, equipped with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and Microsoft Office Suite 2000. The C510 offers 14.1" XGA displays and Intel Mobile Celeron processors running at 1.06 GHz. They are equipped with modular bays for Zip drives and other peripherals.
I.D.s and Accounts
SU students, faculty and staff with a currently valid school I.D. and a second photo identification are eligible to borrow laptops. Allumni, Guest Borrowers, and SUNY E.S.F. students are not elligible to borrow laptops. A NetID, which can be obtained online at http://cms.syr.edu/netid/, is also needed. Users must also sign a laptop loan aggreement citing terms, conditions and liability.
Borrowing a Laptop
Laptops circulate from the circulation desk on the first floor of Bird Library and the circulation desk at Science & Technology Library. After signing the Laptop Loan Agreement, patrons are required to show their SU ID and a second photo ID. Laptops are checked out on a first come, first served basis and are due three hours after check out or one hour before the library closes, whichever occurs first. Overdue fines are $0.25 per minute. There will not be a renewal option.
