Importing Library Resources Into Blackboard

Most subscription databases and e-journals offer downloading of journal articles in plain text or .pdf (portable document format) format. Articles can be saved to a local drive or floppy disk, and then uploaded into Blackboard. The Library can also work with you to digitize print journal articles, book chapters, or other materials and prepare them to import into your Blackboard course. Consult the Full Text Journal Locator for a complete list of full-text journals available through the SU Library.

The ideal place to present your downloaded reading materials in Blackboard would be in a custom Course Content area. That would create a special tab that you could label "Required Readings" or "Additional Readings". If you do not want to create a custom Course Content area, the existing Course Documents section will work just fine.

Importing to Course Documents

1. Open your course and go to the Control Panel.

Control Panel
2. Choose Documents from the Content Areas section.
Documents
3. Choose Add Item.
Add

4. Fill in the descriptive Content Information section.

We recommend using the article title as Name of the item, and adding the complete citation and/or abstract in the Text field. Most database vendors include a copyright statement as part of the citation/abstract as well as on the document itself and we encourage you to include this infomation along with the citation.

5. Fill in the Content Attachments section and under Files to Attach click browse to locate the desired file.
Add Attachment
6. Fill in the Name of Link to File (if no name is specified Blackboard will use the file name).
7. Click Submit to accept.
