The rare book holdings include not only general histories of the region but detailed local and family histories as well. The rare book collection also enhances areas important to the SCRC's manuscript holdings such as religious history and railroad/transportation history with works on these topics. A large area of holdings regarding New York State history consists of a variety of city directories for Syracuse and other municipalities from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Other representative works from this collection also include New York state almanacs, atlases, and genealogies. There is also a focus on printing history in New York State with the inclusions of the works of Joel Munsell of Albany as well as the Roycrofters of East Aurora and the Auburn artistic community. The collection also includes modern works of scholarship regarding these topics. |
