Course Reserves Submission

Syracuse University Libraries accept physical reserve item requests through the Online Reserve System, Ares. Physical reserve items are made available at Bird Library, the Carnegie Library, and the Architecture Reading Room. Please review the step-by-step guide below to assist you in submitting your physical reserve requests.

Step-by-Step Guide for Submitting Physical Reserves

Go to the URL https://reserves.syr.edu/ to connect to Ares.

Log in to Ares using your NetID and password.

Create the New Course for which you would like to add reserve materials.

If you do not see "Instructor Tools," please email reserve@syr.edu and they will add Instructor privileges to your account so that you can create courses.


Fill in the appropriate information on the Create a Course Form.  When finished, select the "Create Course" button.

Ensure that you Subscribe to Email Notifications for the course so you can be updated when we have processed your requests. If you are not currently subscribed, select the text "Subscribe Now"

Choose Add Reserve Items in Instructor Course Tools Section.

Choose Book and Other Items to open the Item Request form in Ares.

Fill in the Item Request Form to request what you would like us to place on reserve for your course.  Make sure to select what Library you would like the item to be on reserve at, the loan period you would like for the item, whether you are requesting a purchase or something from our collection or your personal collection, and provide as much information about the book as possible.  When finished, select the Submit Item button.

You will then be taken to the main course page, where you can add more Reserve Items in the Instructor Tools section.
