University College at Syracuse University Summer Session Records

An inventory of its records at the Syracuse University Archives

Finding aid created by: Anna Smallwood
Date: 2016

Historical Note

Summer classes began at Syracuse University in 1902. Less than a quarter of those first students took summer courses to make up failed work or to earn entrance credit to Syracuse University. The majority of them did so to earn undergraduate or graduate credit. Teachers especially took summer classes to earn credit while still teaching during the school year. Summer Session has allowed students the opportunity to combine education and recreation by staying on campus during the summer months. Summer classes continue today as a part of University College under the name "Summer at Syracuse University" and offer classes during MAYmester and two additional sessions over the summer period.

Scope and Content Note
