Biography

Frederick Revels

Frederick William Revels was born in Randolph, New York, 19th March 1869. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1895 with a degree in architecture and joined the faculty upon graduation. In 1900, he was made an associate professor and in 1902 acheived the rank of professor. By 1904 he was named director of the Architecture Department. In 1905 he married Lola Janet Searls of Fulton, New York. While on leave of absence in 1922, Revels organized the architectural course at the University of Puerto Rico. The following year he was awarded the degree of Masters of Architecture by that university.

In collaboration with Professor Earl Hallenbeck, Revels designed many campus buildings, among them Lyman Hall, Bowne Hall, the Carnegie Library, the original Haven Hall Dormitory, Sims Hall, and Archbold Gymnasium.

Revels was a member of the American Institute of Architects from 1908 and a fellow of the organization from 1930. He belonged to Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and was a past president of the Syracuse Society of Architects.

Frederick William Revels died on 14th October 1937.
