Historical Note

Photograph of Psi Upsilon Fraternity in 1886

The Pi chapter of Psi Upsilon was officially established at Syracuse University on June 8, 1875, although the fraternity existed earlier under the name Upsilon Kappa, which was founded at Genesee College. When Syracuse University opened in 1871, many of the students and faculty transferred from Genesee College to Syracuse University and along with them came Upsilon Kappa. The fraternity house was built in 1898 on College Place. In February 13, 1907, the fraternity house suffered from a fire, but was renovated. The house is still standing on College Place as the home of Psi Upsilon, which as a fraternity has never been reinitiated or recolonized since its founding at Syracuse University.
