Biography

Richard E. Mundy was born in Seymour, Indiana on July 27, 1924. Mundy received his B.A. (1950) and M.A. (1953) from Indiana University, where he studied philosophy and social work. In 1970, after spending time working as a hospital case worker in institutions throughout the country, he joined the Syracuse University School of Social Work faculty as a specialist in child welfare and social policy. Mundy became chair of the Syracuse University in the Netherlands program in the 1970s, and in 1977, after spending a number of years split between Syracuse and the Netherlands, he became a tenured professor. In 1981, he became project director of the Child Welfare Curriculum Development Project in the Undergraduate Program of the School of Social Work. Mundy was a member of the New York State Association for Human Services, the National Association of Social Workers, Peace Action of Central New York, and the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).

Mundy retired from Syracuse University in 1989, but continued to be active in both the academic and activist communities of which he was a part. He died in Syracuse, New York on November 20, 2007.
