A. Harry Kallet

Aaron Harry Kallet was born Aaron Gedalia Kaletzki on August 2, 1887 in Warsaw, Poland. He was the youngest of five children and immigrated to the United States as an infant.

Kallet attended Syracuse University from 1905 to 1912 and served as president of the Class of 1912. As a student, Kallet was a founding member and first president of the Omicron Chapter of Zeta Beta Tau. He was also an accomplished football player, named to Walter Camp’s All American Football Team and the Medical All American Football Team. Upon graduation, he worked as an assistant coach and scout for Syracuse University’s football team and served as team physician. He was also Head Coach for the Manlius Military Academy from 1916 to 1934, where a field house and a football field were named in his honor.

During Kallet’s fifty-year career as a practicing physician in Syracuse, New York, he worked as an instructor of obstetrics at Syracuse University’s Medical College. He also served as a medical examiner on Syracuse’s Draft Board during World War II. His professional interests included nutrition, weight loss, and nephrology.

He married Kathryn Clifford of Auburn, New York. They had two sons, Clifford and Richard. Kallet died on April 13, 1965 in Hollywood, Florida. In 1966, he was posthumously inducted into the Syracuse Jewish Community Center's Sports Hall of Fame.
