Biography

Edwin S. Hopson

Edwin Salisbury Hopson was born on Broad Meadow Farm in Dolgeville, New York on September 20, 1885. He graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University in 1912 with a Bachelor of Science degree after studying botany. Hopson was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Society and the Acacia Fraternity. After graduating from the University, he moved to Connecticut to teach high school. In 1916, he moved back to his hometown of Dolgeville to take over the family farm, leading him to become a member of the 4-H Committee, chairman of the Farm and Home Bureau, and president of the Dolgeville Dairymen's League. In addition to his farm duties, Hopson was elected superintendent of the Salisbury School District, wherein he established a program to foster communication between districts. Hopson found time to continue his education at Cornell University while still attending to his farm and school duties.

Edwin Hopson died November of 1973 in Dolgeville, New York.
