Biography

William F. Gaske is a Syracuse University graduate from the class of 1972.

Gaske graduated with a B.A. from the College of Arts and Sciences. While at Syracuse University, he studied abroad at the University’s center in Florence, Italy and was a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity. After graduation, Gaske received his M.A. in arts administration from New York University in 1984 and his J.D. from Fordham University Law School in 1990. Gaske then worked as a counsel to non-profit and tax-exempt organizations.

As an alumnus, Gaske remains active in the Syracuse University community, having served as a Library Associate and a member of the Library Advisory Board. One of his interests has been to collect postcards related to Syracuse University.

Scope and Content

The William F. Gaske Postcard Collection contains five series. The series names echo those in the Syracuse University Archive's Postcard Collection, but the original arrangement of the postcards within the series have been kept. The series are:

Buildings & Grounds which contains postcards with images of Syracuse University campus buildings;

Special Events which comprises a postcard with an image of commencement in 1910;

Athletics which includes postcards of the men's crew team;

Greek Organizations which includes postcards of fraternity and sorority houses;

Syracuse City/Onondaga County which includes images outside of the University campus, like downtown Syracuse or Marshall Street.

The postcards were originally organized in two albums. The original arrangement has mainly been preserved, but some postcards that were originally organized by their orientation have been placed with their respective series. Inside each series, the postcards mainly remain in their original order.
