Finding aid created by: Anna Smallwood
Date: 2016

Historical Note

Photograph of Chi Omega Sorority

Chi Omega at Syracuse University started with the predecessor sorority, Rho Beta Upsilon, which was formed in 1904 at the University for women art students. In 1909, they petitioned to become affiliated with Chi Omega, and the Upsilon Alpha Chapter was established at Syracuse University in December of 1911. For the majority of its existence the chapter resided at 1003 Walnut Avenue. Among some of the traditions at the Chi Omega House was the annual Easter basket hunt. Alumnae were assigned to sisters and were asked to create Easter baskets, which the house parents would then hide for the sisters to find. The chapter continued until they voted to disband in 1992.
