DESCRIPTION:
American clergyman, lawyer. Episcopal bishop, wrote and spoke on the church and social problems, Christian and legal ethics, pastoral psychology, psychical research, and spiritualism. Resigned as Bishop of California in 1966.
Correspondence (1889-1970), including family letters, personal, and business correspondence; notebooks (1955-1958); professional records relating to Pike's legal career (1936-1944) and ecclesiastical appointments as Dean of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine (1952-1958), and Fifth Bishop of California (1958-1966), among others; writings, including manuscript and/or typescript articles and essays, book reviews, books, interviews, sermons, and speeches; and memorabilia, including awards, financial and legal records, photographs, and scrapbooks. Correspondents include John C. Bennett, Daniel Berrigan, Smiley Blanton, John B. Coburn, John S. Dickey, John Dillenberger, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Eugene Exman, Erich Fromm, Frederick C.
