Richard Elman (1932-1997) was an American author, novelist and poet. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1955 and studied creative writing at Stanford, after which he embarked on a literary career producing novels, nonfiction, essays, book reviews, poetry and other pieces. He also worked as a journalist in Central America and taught creative writing at several institutions, including Bennington College, Columbia University, Sarah Lawrence, the University of Pennsylvania, Notre Dame, and Stony Brook University.
The Richard Elman Papers includes correspondence (1956-1992); typescript essays, lectures, novels, poems, stories; and memorabilia, including financial and legal material, clippings, reviews, and photographs.
