Biographical History

P. T. Barnum (1810-1891) was an American showman, author, publisher, politician and businessman. He is best known for creating the Barnum & Bailey Circus, "The Greatest Show on Earth," which toured for more than a century from 1871 to 2017.

Scope and Contents of the Collection

The P. T. Barnum Collection consists of two items of correspondence, a letter and a postcard. The letter was written during his tenure as Mayor of Bridgeport, Connecticut and is on mayoral letterhead.
