Biographical History

The Bakelite Museum was started by Patrick Cook as a collection of "plastics in the home" and other domestic items dating from the time of plastics' first invention in the mid-nineteenth century until the present day. Their focus was especially on the "inter-war years" and art and design (rather than science). The museum was first officially opened in Greenwich, UK in 1983. It then moved to Somerset in 1994 and remained there for 25 years before closing with the intention to relocate to the History of Bakelite Museum in 2020.
