UNION OF CHRISTIANS.

At a large meeting, held in Peterboro', January 29th, 1841, to promote the Union of Christians, the following Resolutions were passed :

Resolved, That 500 copies of the 3 Resolutions passed in the series of Christian Union Meetings, held in Peterboro', in December, 1840, and January, 1841, be printed forthwith, and that Stafford Green, Elias Sager and Oran Stephens be a Committee to distribute them throughout the Town of Smithfield.

Resolved, That a list be made this evening of all persons present, who are in favor of the aforesaid three Resolutions, and in favor also of having one Religious Society take the place of all the Religious Societies now in the Town of Smithfield: - and Resolved, further, that this list be banded to John G. Curtis ; and that all persons in the Town of Smithfield, who wish to add their names to it, be requested to send them to Mr. Curtis within a fortnight.

Resolved, That Frederick Myers and Stafford Green be a Committee to bring the claims of the cause of Christian Union before the two Baptist Churches in Smithfield - that Federal Dana and Oran Stephens be a Committee to bring the claims of said cause before the Presbyterian Church of Peterboro' - and that John G. Curtis and Lewis M. Pease be a Committee to bring the claims of said cause before the Methodist Church of Peterboro' - and that these Committees, make their respective reports to the Christian Union Meeting, which is to be held a fortnight from this evening.

The three Resolutions referred to in the first of the above Resolutions are as follows :

Whereas, The Bible teaches, that the union, the oneness, of Christians is important; even so important, that the world might be convinced by it, that Jesus is sent of God - Resolved, Therefore, that the division of Christians into rival sects or parties, is anti-Scriptural and wicked.

Whereas, The Bible teaches that a person, who is rightfully excluded from the fellowship of a Church of Christ, should no longer be regarded as a, Christian - Resolved, Therefore, that the ecclesiastical body, which excludes from, or refuses to receive into its fellowship any person, whom it admits to be a Christian, is manifestly not governed by the laws, which Jesus Christ has given for the government of His Church.

Resolved, That Christians have but to adopt and carry out the obviously true propositions of the foregoing Resolutions; and a common Christianity and a common Church would take the place of the Methodist and Presbyterian and Baptist and other sects, which now divide and afflict and corrupt Zion.
