Employment Experience

Over the course of her career, Lydia Wasylenko has held a variety of positions in academic and association libraries, including Wollman Library of Barnard College, the library of Laubach Literacy, Inc., Memorial Library of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the American Philatelic Research Library, the Pennsylvania State University Libraries, and the Research Working Collection of Penn State’s College of Business Administration. She has worked as a library technician, catalog librarian, technical services supervisor, head of a catalog and collection maintenance department, reference librarian, and head of a business research library.

Other Scholarly and Professional Activities

American Library Association (ALA):

Lydia has served on many committees within divisions of the ALA, including the Catalog Form and Function Committee of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS). Within ALA’s College and Research Libraries (ACRL) division, Lydia has been a member of the division-level Professional Education Committee; the University Libraries Section (ULS) Communications Committee; and the Slavic and Eastern European Section (SEES) Executive Committee, Nominating Committee (Chair), Conference Program Planning Committee, Automated Bibliographic Control Committee, Continuing Education Committee, and Electronic Resources Committee.

Beta Phi Mu, the International Library Science Honor Society:

Over the course of a ten-year stint on the Executive Board of the Pi Lambda Sigma (Syracuse University) Chapter of Beta Phi Mu, Lydia served as Chair of the Scholarship Committee and held four different officer positions, including President.


University and Community Service

  • In 2010, Lydia began a two-year term as one of four Senators representing the librarian constituency in the Syracuse University Senate.  In past years, she has been chair of three university-level committees at Syracuse University: the University Affirmative Action Grievance Committee, the Syracuse University Senate Committee on Affirmative Action/Diversity, and the Syracuse University Senate Committee on Student Affairs.

  • Lydia has also served as the Syracuse University Library representative on the Legislative Committee of the Central New York Library Resources Council (CLRC).

  • From 2005 to 2011, Lydia was a Trustee of the DeWitt (NY) Community Library.  She completed a two-year term as Board Secretary (2007-2009); chaired the Nominating Committee (2009-2010); and, over the years, served on the Bylaws, Facilities, Fund-Raising, and Strategic Planning Committees.  She continues to serve on the Strategic Planning Committee as a community representative.
